Liberty Hosts Radford for Senior Day, Wednesday

Senior midfielder Juan Nino will be one of eight Liberty Flames playing in their final regular season home game, Wednesday at Osborne Stadium.

The Liberty Flames men's soccer team will host the Radford Highlanders in their final regular season match of 2013, Wednesday.  Before the game, those Flames playing in their final home game will be honored.  Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m.

With back-to-back victories over Big South opponents, Longwood and Campbell, last week, Liberty (9-7, 5-4 Big South) stays in the hunt for one of the top four seeds and home field advantage for the Big South Men's Soccer Championship quarterfinals on Nov. 12.  The top four seeds will host the lower four seeds in the first round of the conference tournament.

For Radford (6-6-4, 3-3-2 Big South), Wednesday's match will be its final regular season road contest of 2013.

Recognizing the Seniors
Wednesday, eight Flames will be honored before the game, as they play their last regular season home match in a Liberty uniform.

A Look at Liberty
Liberty recorded its fifth victory in its last seven outings with a 3-1 victory over the Campbell Camels, Saturday evening.

Forward Sachem Wilson, who was named the Big South Attacking Player of the Week on Monday, scored twice in the first half to give Liberty a 2-0 advantage at halftime.  It was Wilson's second two-goal game this season and the third of the sophomore's career.

Forward Tyler Bullock added his second goal of the season in the 61st minute in Liberty's victory, as he tipped in a rebound of his own shot.

With the road victory, the Flames finish the regular season with a 4-6 road record.  Liberty is 5-1 at home, entering Wednesday's match.

Wilson has paced the Flames in goals and points for most of 2013.  With his two goals on Saturday, the sophomore has netted eight goals and assisted on three others for 19 points.  Wilson's eight goals are the most by a Liberty player since Darren Amoo scored 12 in 2010.

Sophomore Tim Harbison follows with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Midfielder Blessing Tahuona and forward Kyle Breitmeyer have scored three goals each, while Bullock has netted two goals to join Wilson and Haribson as multi-goal scorers this season.  In total, nine Flames have scored a goal this season.

Breitmeyer, Tahuona and midfielder Jonatan Torres have three assists each to share the team-high with Wilson.

Goalkeeper Jeremy Lee has started the past eight contests and nine games in 2013 for Liberty. The redshirt freshman has logged over 875 minutes between the posts for the Flames this season, posting a 1.34 goals-against average and .705 save percentage. 

Liberty has posted five shutouts, all coming in victories this season.  As a team, Liberty enters Friday's game with a 1.29 goals-against average.

Liberty's Jeff Alder is in his 13th year as head coach at his alma mater.  Alder has posted a 125-93-22 career record, while heading the Flames' program.

All-Time Against Radford
Tuesday's match between the Flames and Highlanders will be the 46th meeting between the two schools on the soccer field.  Liberty has met Radford more than any school in soccer, with the Flames holding a 22-15-8 mark in the all-time series.

Last season, Liberty won for the first time at Radford since 2004, 2-1, on Oct. 30.  Sachem Wilson scored both goals for the Flames in the win.

A Look at Radford
The Highlanders had a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) snapped with a 1-0 loss at Winthrop on Saturday.

Wednesday's game will be the final regular season road game for Radford.  The Highlanders are 1-4-2 in road games in 2013.

Midfielders Joe Mayer and Bernardo Ulmo lead the Highlanders with seven goals each.  Mayer has also assisted on two other goals to pace Radford with 16 points. Defender Jamie Summers has netted three goals to joined Mayer and Ulmo as multiple goal scorers for the Highlanders.

Midfielder Luis Grande leads Radford and is third in the Big South Conference with six assists.

Goalkeeper Dane Wilson has played every minute of 2013 in goal for the Highlanders.  The redshirt senior had posted a 1.06 goals-against average and .750 save percentage.  He has recorded four shutouts.

Radford head coach Marc Reeves is in his fourth year with the Highlanders. Radford has recorded a 35-32-11 mark during his tenure as head coach.

Big South Race is On
A home game on Nov. 12 for the Big South Quarterfinals, along with a position in the Big South tournament field, will be on the line this week as the 2013 regular season comes to an end. The top four teams in the Big South standings will host the fifth through eighth seeds in the first round of the conference tournament. 

Currently, Liberty (5-4-0, 15 points) sits in fourth place in the conference standings with Wednesday's game its only remaining contest. The Flames are among the logjam of several teams vying for the third and fourth seeds.  Campbell, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Radford and Winthrop are in the mix to finish among the top four and host quarterfinal contests, entering the week.

Gardner-Webb has finished conference play and enters the week in third place (6-4-0, 18 points). After Liberty, High Point (4-2-2, 14 points) and Campbell (4-3-1, 13 points) follow. Winthrop (3-5, 12 points) and Radford (3-3-2, 11 points) both have two Big South matches left and could still finish among the top four seeds.

Coastal Carolina (7-0-1, 21 points), which sits atop the conference and Longwood (6-2-1, 19 points), which is currently in second place, will finish in one of the top four places in the Big South standings and have secured a home game on Nov. 12.

Wilson Garners Weekly Honors
Liberty forward Sachem Wilson has been named the Big South Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week and included on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, Monday.

Wilson netted three goals this past week, helping Liberty (9-7, 5-4 Big South) record Big South victories over Longwood and Campbell. With his three goals, he moves his season total to team-leading eight goals and 19 points.  His eight goals are the most by a Liberty player since 2010.

With two goals in a 3-1 win over Campbell on Saturday, the sophomore posted his second two-goal contest this season and the third for his career.

Duininck Answers Call
Defender Sam Duininck heads into his last regular season home game, having started every one of the Flames' matches the past three seasons. The senior and two-time team captain will be among Liberty's starting 11 for the 54th time, Wednesday.

A Look Ahead
With its regular season completed tomorrow, Liberty will wait for the conclusion of the Big South regular season. Seeding for the 2013 Big South Men's Soccer Championship will be determined upon completion of the conference schedule on Saturday. 

Liberty, which has already clinched a place in the tournament and could either host or take to the road depending upon its finish in the final Big South standings, next Tuesday for the Big South Quarterfinals.
