Lady Flames Open at No. 19 in Mid-Major Top 25

The Liberty women's basketball team has been ranked No. 19 in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 to start the 2013-14 season.

Expectations are high for head coach Carey Green's Lady Flames, coming off of a 27-7 season and their second consecutive Big South Conference title. On Thursday, Liberty was tabbed the Big South preseason favorite for the 16th time in 17 years.

Liberty, which ended the 2012-13 season ranked No. 16 in the Mid-Major Top 25, is the only Big South squad to appear in the first poll of the 2013-14 campaign.

Gonzaga tops the preseason poll, followed by Marist, Princeton, Green Bay and Toledo in the top five.

The women's Mid-Major Top 25, now in its fourth year of existence, is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast and Western Athletic Conferences.

Liberty is two weeks away from its 2013-14 season opener, which will see the Lady Flames travel to Charlotte on Nov. 8 for a 5 p.m. tipoff. The Lady Flames will return to the Vines Center on Nov. 12 for their home opener against James Madison at 7 p.m. The Dukes are ranked No. 14 in the Mid-Major Top 25 to begin the year.
