Following the Flames' final full practice on Thursday before they open their 2013 home schedule against Monmouth on Saturday, LFSN reporter Alan York had one last chance to talk with head coach Turner Gill.

The Flames will begin their 25th season of competition at Williams Stadium on Saturday against a first-time opponent, but one that will become a familiar foe.

Liberty will face the first of four first-time teams on its 2013 when it welcomes the Hawks to Lynchburg on Saturday. Liberty will start to regularly face Monmouth in the future as the Hawks will join the Big South Conference as an associate member for football only in 2014.

Just like the Flames, Monmouth is coming off a Thursday night opening road loss, as the Hawks dropped their 2013 lid-lifter to No. 2/2 Montana State last week, 42-24.
