Liberty Concludes Big South Play With a Pair of Weekend Matchups
The Liberty Flames tennis team closes out its Big South Conference schedule this weekend with a pair of matches. Tomorrow, Liberty travels to Radford to face the Highlanders, before returning to the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts on Sunday for a contest against conference leader Coastal Carolina. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

The Flames will look to bounce back from a tough 4-3 defeat on Wednesday at home against Campbell. The loss dropped Liberty to 10-7 (3-3 Big South) on the season. It was just the second setback for the Flames in eight home matches on the year.
Shea Thomas leads Liberty with a 13-4 singles mark on the season. The junior has 24 wins on the year, spanning tournament and dual-match action, which is a single-season program record. Jorge Azuero is right behind Thomas with 12 singles victories on the year, including a 5-1 ledger in conference matches. No. 1 singles player, Siim Tuus is third on the squad with 10 wins during the spring. As a team, the Flames are 64-37 (17-19 Big South) in singles tilts.
In doubles competition, Thomas and Egon Samaai have a team-high 12 wins, each of which have come in the No. 1 position. The combination of Azuero and Dillon Segur ranks second on the team with 10 victories. Liberty has been very strong in doubles play during Big South matches, winning 13 out of 18. Overall, the Flames are 31-16 in doubles contests.
Two-time defending Big South champion Radford enters tomorrow's contest with a 4-10 (1-3 Big South) record on the season. As a squad, the Highlanders are 30-39 (12-12 Big South) in singles matches and just 8-24 (5-7 Big South) in doubles tilts.
Radford's Stijn Meulemans has a team-high eight singles tallies on the year, while Thomas Dehaen and Nicholas Sayer have seven victories each. In doubles play, Sayer and Dehaen lead the team with four wins, including a 3-1 mark in conference play.
Big South leader Coastal Carolina comes to Liberty Mountain with a 10-5 overall record and an unblemished 6-0 mark in conference play. The Chanticleers are 2-4 on the season when playing on the road.
Yusuke Kusuda paces Coastal Carolina with nine singles victories, while Matias Di Pasquale is a close second, with eight markers. Overall, the Chanticleers are an even 43-43 in singles matches, but are an impressive 26-10 in Big South contests. Leo Christofides and John Karle have a team-high 11 doubles wins on the season for Coastal Carolina. The No. 1 tandem of Di Pasquale and Garik Yedigarian are 9-6 on the year. The Chanticleers are a combined 29-15 (12-6 Big South) on the year in doubles play.
Following Sunday's match, Liberty will play its final home contest of the season on Wednesday against James Madison. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.
