Lady Flames to Play James Madison in Mid-Week Tilt
Before squaring off against Charleston Southern on Friday in its last Big South Conference match of the year, the Liberty Lady Flames tennis team travels to Harrisonburg, Va., on Tuesday to face the James Madison Dukes at 2 p.m.
Liberty, winner of three consecutive contests, holds an overall record of 9-7 (6-2 Big South). The Lady Flames' 6-2 Big South mark places them in fourth place in the conference. James Madison is riding a four-match winning streak and is currently 7-4 (1-2 CAA) on the year.
The Lady Flames captured a pair of Big South wins last week at the Hershey Tennis Courts. Liberty ousted Radford, 6-1, on Wednesday, before blanking Presbyterian College the following day, 7-0.
Overall, Liberty is 44-43 in singles matches and 30-16 in doubles tilts. With a pair of wins last week, Nicola Wellman became the first Lady Flame to reach double-digits in singles wins this season, at 10-4. The sophomore improved to 7-1 in Big South matches after straight-set wins against Hana Babic of Radford and Patricia Alves of Presbyterian College. Rebekah Jenkins and Valerie Thong both have recorded eight singles wins on the season, ranking second on the team. Thong has yet to lose a singles match in Big South competition, holding a 6-0 record.
In doubles matches, Thong and Cameron Richard have a team-best winning streak of six matches and currently rank second on the squad with 10 doubles victories. Brittany Yang and Jessie Boda, playing in the No. 2 doubles spot, pace the Lady Flames with 12 wins overall and a 7-1 mark in Big South matches.
