Woodrum Earns Weekly Big South Freshman Honor

Following a career day against No. 14/12 Montana, quarterback Josh Woodrum has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office earlier today.

Woodrum, who started his first collegiate game against the Grizzlies, finished the road contest with 322 passing yards, completing 34-of-44 passing attempts.

Woodrum's 34 completions set a new program single-game record, surpassing the previous record held by Phil Basso in 1984 (against West Georgia).

The freshman accounted for 84.8 percent of Liberty's total offense on Saturday, as Woodrum finished the afternoon with 290 total offensive yards (322 passing, -32 rushing).

Woodrum joined an elite quarterback club on Saturday, becoming the 11th player in program history to pass for 300 or more yards in a game.

Woodrum is the second Flame to receive Big South Freshman of the Week honors in 2012. Kicker John Lunsford received the same accolade on Sept. 3 following his performance against Wake Forest in Liberty's season-opener.

Liberty will play its final non-conference game before starting Big South play this weekend when the Flames host No. 16/13 Lehigh. Kickoff for Liberty's annual Athletics Hall of Fame game is scheduled for 7 p.m., in Williams Stadium.

The Mountain Hawks come into the game with a perfect 3-0 record and are the third of three-straight nationally ranked opponents the Flames have faced in September.
