Ravettine Swims Program-Record Time in 100 Free, Places 33rd
Liberty's Brye Ravettine concluded her stay at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with a 33rd-place finish in the 100 freestyle, Saturday afternoon at Auburn's Martin Aquatics Center.
Ravettine swam a program-record time of 49.24 in the fourth of nine preliminary heats, lowering her own previous school record by 0.09 seconds. She entered the national meet with a 43rd-ranked seed time of 49.33 for the 100 free.
The highlight of the meet for Ravettine came on Thursday, when she placed 13th in the 50 free, claiming All-America honorable mention. She scored four points for the Lady Flames, entering them in the team standings at nationals for the first time in program history.
The 2011-12 collegiate swimming season has concluded, and Liberty has wrapped up a successful second season as a swimming program. The Lady Flames earned second place at the CCSA Championships in February, with Ravettine being named Swimmer of the Meet and Swimmer of the Year and Jake Shellenberger named Coach of the Year. Ravettine, Liberty's first All-American swimmer, will compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials this June in Omaha, Neb.
