Stephen Hawk shot a 74 after day one at the William and Mary Invitational.
Richmond finished 11-strokes behind Campbell to sit in third place after day one while the University of Detroit Mercy rounds out the top four, 15-strokes off the lead.
Fredric Sundberg of Campbell leads all individuals at four-under par after shooting a 67. Tied for second, two strokes off the lead are Joe Mclister of Delaware and Mikhial Pasic of Detroit Mercy each shot a 69 and stand at two-under par.
Liberty stands in 11th place out of 21 teams after shooting a 302 in the first round. The Flames enter the final day of play 23-shots off the leader, Campbell.
The Flames were led by Andrew Nelson who shot a 73 and sits tied for 19th at two-over par in his first collegiate start. Stephen Hawk shot a 74 while Parker McKoy pitched in an 80. Rounding out the Flame five was Jay Calvo who shot an 80 and Peter Horstman who ended with an 82.
Liberty won this event last year with a narrow one-stroke victory over Maryland.
The two-day/36 hole tournament will conclude with the final 18 holes of competition on Tuesday at the par-71, 6,432-yard Course at Kingsmill in Williamsburg.
