No. 5 Seed Liberty Edges No. 8 Seed Charleston Southern

Outfielder Ashton Perritt plated the winning run with a bunt and then pitched a scoreless ninth, propelling the No. 5 seed Liberty Flames past the No. 8 seed Charleston Southern Buccaneers, 2-1, in Game 6 of the Big South Championship, Wednesday afternoon.
Perritt, who started the game in left field, had two hits in the contest and posted his sixth save of the year, coming on to pitch in the ninth.
Catcher Trey Wimmer had three hits and hit his fourth home run of the season.
After the Buccaneers left runners at second and third in the top of the eighth, Liberty took the lead in the bottom of the frame. First baseman Alex Close started off the inning with a double into the right-center field gap and advanced to third base on a deep fly ball to center field by shortstop Jake Kimble. Two batters later, Perritt plated Close with a two-out bunt base hit, putting the Flames in front, 2-1.
In the ninth, Perritt took the mound and closed out the Liberty win with a scoreless inning.
With the victory, the Flames move to 30-27 and advance to an elimination game tomorrow evening against the loser of No. 4 seed Radford and No. 1 Campbell later tonight. Charleston Southern is eliminated from the tournament, finishing the year at 22-34
Charleston Southern was the only team to mount a scoring threat through the first five innings. With one out, left fielder John Faircloth and shortstop Alex Tomasovich hit back-to-back singles and advanced into scoring position on a ground out to first base by right fielder Chase Shelton. However, Liberty starting pitcher Roy retired the next Buccaneer batter to end the threat.
Charleston Southern took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth. Tomasovich singled with one out and scored on a double lined into the right field corner by Shelton for the game's first run.
Liberty tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Wimmer opened the inning with a towering home run off the scoreboard in left-center field. The Flames' catcher's solo blast, knotted the contest at 1-1.
Roy did not figure in the decision. The senior allowed one run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out two and walked a batter.
Jared Lyons followed and picked up the win to move to 4-0. He pitched a scoreless 2 1/3 innings and also, struck out two and walked one batter.
Charleston Southern starter Ryan Gunther went the distance. He finishes the year at 7-5. The right-hander gave up one run on eight hits over the full eight innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Liberty collected eight hits in the game. Right fielder Nick Paxton added two hits for the Flames.
Charleston Southern had 11 hits, but left 10 on base. Tomasovich recorded three hits for the Bucs and scored Charleston Southern's lone run.
