After making significant improvement in the pole vault during his time on Liberty's track & field team, Kolby Shepherd will aid the Flames' current group of pole vaulters as a volunteer assistant coach.
Shepherd, who arrived at Liberty in the fall of 2007 with a modest pole vault personal best of 14-0, capped his collegiate career in style at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He made a first-attempt clearance at a new school-record height of 17-8.5, tying for fifth place and earning first team All-America honors.
Shepherd is one of the most highly-decorated pole vaulters in Big South Conference history, winning seven Big South pole vault titles (four indoor, three outdoor). His 17-8.5 clearance also tied the Big South all-time record for the men's pole vault.
A Dublin, Ga., native, Shepherd graduated from Liberty in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in biblical studies. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in youth ministry.
