Constitution Day

September 17

In commemoration of the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the Constitution

A Congressional initiative requires that educational institutions receiving federal funding from the U.S. Department of Education “shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution.” (PL 108-447, “Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2005,” Dec. 8, 2004; 118 Stat. 2809, 3344-45 (Sec.111).

To accomplish this, Liberty University:

  1. Provides information and events related to the Constitution each year
  2. Developed this website to serve as a 24-hour resource for students using informational tools including sources recommended by the U.S. Department of Education [Federal Register: May 24, 2005 (Volume 70, Number 99)]

2023 Commemoration Activities

  1. There is a public web announcement for Friday, September 15, 2023, displayed through the student myLU portal, departmental email, and social media announcement through Facebook.  Each of these announcements has the goal of encouraging students and staff to remember the sacrifice and blessing we have as a nation thanks to our Founding Fathers from 236 years ago.
  2. The Student Service Center in Green Hall and the Guillerman Financial Center at Liberty University displayed posters on September 15th, 2023, that included the significance and importance of the U.S. Constitution.
