Clayton King teaches students the “12 Questions.”

Many on-campus students who received complimentary copies of Clayton and Charie King’s new book, “12 Questions to Ask Before You Marry,” at the start of the semester may have asked another question – “What am I supposed to do with this?”

Clayton King is aware that most of the student body is single but believes the book is applicable to everyone, even students not currently in serious relationships.

“The book is written for single people as well as married couples,” King said. “The questions in there are applicable to people who don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend, or do. Eventually you’ll have to ask yourself the questions.”

As one of Liberty’s campus pastors, he said he thought writing the book would be a great opportunity for him to teach on the topic as someone students know and trust.

“This would be a good place for them to start,” King said.

The book was written over the course of six months in a collaborative effort by the couple, who has been married since 1999. Although the book was Clayton King’s idea at first, Charie King eventually became just as involved in the project.

“Just the process of working together and figuring out who was going to write which chapter and proofreading each other’s stuff, that helped us learn even more about communication,” he said. “We learned a lot about serving, a lot about submitting to one another.”

Clayton King has been a campus pastor since 2010. He shared the stage with his wife last Wednesday at campus church as they kicked off a new sermon series on relationships which will correspond with the chapters in the book. The series will continue throughout the semester each Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Thomas Road Baptist Church.
