The New Rock Wall at LaHaye Student Union

September 18, 2014

written by Elliot Gaunt

Welcome to Liberty University’s new Rock Wall at the LaHaye Student Union. We are excited to have such an amazing facility open to the students and staff of Liberty University. Our brand new state of the art wall features a 40 foot tower and over 4,000 square feet of climbing space! The Rock Wall is open week days 3:00-11:30 p.m., and Saturday noon-4 p.m. We provide the following programming at the Rock Wall.

Bouldering- Bouldering is climbing without a harness or rope on boulders or walls that have padding under you.

Route Climbing- All of our routes go to the top of our 40 foot tower. Once you are at the top, you may enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the campus and Liberty Mountain. All participants must use a harness and rope on route climbing. We offer both Top Rope and Lead climbing, and even if you don’t have a belay buddy, you can hook into one of our auto belay systems. In order to belay, you must pass our belay test or take our top rope class.

Classes- We offer classes for top roping, bouldering, and lead climbing. Check out our dates for these classes HERE.

In addition to our normal operating hours we have several events coming up this semester. On October 17th, Student Activities and the Rock Wall Staff will host its annual bouldering competition. Prizes will be awarded to the top three of each of the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced categories, and to both the Top Overall Female and Dyno Competition Winner. Signups for this will be at the front desk of the LaHaye Student Union.  On November 8th, we will be hosting a bouldering trip to White Rock Falls, VA.

Hope to see you out on the wall or at one of our events soon!
