What You Should Know

This is your one chance to stand on the sidewalk and cheer for traffic without having anyone think you’ve escaped the psych ward at the hospital.

The 2014 Homecoming Parade is just around the corner! Not literally of course, so please don’t run like mad men or women out to the street with your candy bucket. It will be here on Saturday, October 4 starting at 4 p.m. to be exact.  Whether you’re in the parade or just a Bit-o-Honey-crazed bystander, Student Activities wants YOU to be there.  You can participate in the parade if you’re with a dorm or other group of students, SGA Club, University Department, a local business, Club Sports team or one of our fine Athletic teams.

You may be asking yourself, “What about prize money? Isn’t there usually prize money for this sort of thing?”  Yes, there is prize money, but the only groups eligible to win prize money are dorms or groups of students, SGA Clubs, University Departments, and Club Sports teams.  Here’s how much prize money:

  • 1st place gets $500

  • 2nd place gets $400

  • 3rd place gets $300

Don’t let a lack of prize money stop you from parade walking!  Even if you just walk down the street dressed in all red carrying a sign indicating who you are, it still helps make a fun parade.  Here’s what to do:

  • Gather friends from your dorm, club, department, or other organization

  • Register for the Parade - 2014 Application and Guidelines (due by September 22)

  • Build your float (within the guidelines we provide)

  • Wow the judges, who will consist of some familiar Liberty faces

Other information, such as arrival time and staging location, will be provided to you when you register.   Make this the year you stop trying to pick up candy off the road, and become the one who throws it, and not the kind of candy-thrower that gets escorted off the premises by police for actually throwing candy AT the parade. Come celebrate and get the sugar rush you need for the big game at the Homecoming Parade!

Please return all completed applications by email or drop off at our office located above the Tilley Student Center.
