What You Should Know
This is your one chance to stand on the sidewalk and cheer for traffic without having anyone think you’ve escaped the psych ward at the hospital.
The 2016 Homecoming Parade is just around the corner! Not literally of course, so please don’t run like mad men or women out to the street with your candy bucket. It will be here on Saturday, October 22 starting at 1 p.m. to be exact. Whether you’re in the parade or just a Bit-o-Honey-crazed bystander, Student Activities wants YOU to be there. You can participate in the parade if you’re with a dorm or other group of students, SGA Club, University Department, a local business, Club Sports team or one of our fine Athletic teams.
You may be asking yourself, “What about prize money? Isn’t there usually prize money for this sort of thing?” Yes, there is prize money, but the only groups eligible to win prize money are official SGA Clubs and Club Sports teams*. Here’s how much prize money:
Don’t let a lack of prize money stop you from parade walking! Even if you just walk down the street dressed in all red carrying a sign indicating who you are, it still helps make a fun parade. Here’s what to do:
Other information, such as arrival time and staging location, will be provided to you when you register. Make this the year you stop trying to pick up candy off the road, and become the one who throws it, and not the kind of candy-thrower that gets escorted off the premises by police for actually throwing candy AT the parade. Come celebrate and get the sugar rush you need for the big game at the Homecoming Parade!
*Please review the 2016 Float Guidelines document for a revised prize money policy. We are no longer able to provide cash prizes.
To vote for your favorite float, text “FLOAT” to 24502. After being prompted, please respond with just the number of the float for which you would like to vote. In your reply, do not include any other text than the float’s number. Please vote once. Only 1 vote per person will be received.
Voting open from 1 - 2 p.m. the day of the parade.
