All-Time Series: Liberty and Penn State are dead even all time, each team winning 4 games. This includes the 2 victories in which the Flames defeated the Nittany Lions at Nationals.
Scouting Liberty: Sophomore, Andrew McCombe had a huge night against Virginia Tech factoring in on all 4 goals that were scored in that game. He currently has 12 goals and 13 assists which is good for 2nd on the team in points. Brent Boschman added a goal to his records and continues to lead the Flames in points with 35 (12 goals, 23 assists). Defenseman, Josh Cornelissen has led all Flames defensemen in points for virtually the whole season and comes into this game against PSU with 3 goals and 14 assists. Jackson Kuhn (2 goals and 7 assists) has also had a very good year for the Flames on the blue line and will look to continue his strong play as the Flames try to stop Penn State's high scoring offense. In net, Blair Bennett will also look to come up big. He posts a .91 save percentage and 2.71 goals against. He is coming into this game with a record of 7-4-2.
Scouting Penn State: The Nittany Lions come into this game having only lost one game so far this season. Many players on their current roster are expected to play on their team next season when they move up to the NCAA division 1 level. Their coaching staff has come over from Princeton's NCAA team and are a very strong asset for PSU moving forward. Sophomore forward, Justin Kirchevel leads all Nittany Lion players in points with 22. The Flames will also need to watch out for Tommy Olczyk who leads their team in goals with 9. Aside from those two players Penn State has a very balanced team as they have 10 players who have over 10 points. Additionally the Nittany Lions are very disciplined as they have no player with over 25 penalty minutes. The Flames on the other hand have 11 players with over 25. Penn State also gets strong play from Daniel Loucks who leads all PSU defensemen in points with 13 (3 goals, 10 assists). Finally, the Nittany Lions have split time in net between 2 net minders, Paul Musico and Mathew Madrazo who have a 1.27 and 2.18 GAA respectively.
Previous Matchups: Last year the Flames traveled up to Happy Valley for a two game series against Penn State. Liberty dropped the first game by a score of 7 to 3. In that game, Rick Turner and Brent Boschman combined for 5 points. However, Liberty took the second game by a score of 3 to 2. In that game, Boschman scored his second goal of the weekend, and Blair Bennett shined in net, registering 34 saves.
