Matchup Preview: Flames face-off against Delaware

Matchup: #8 Liberty Flames (11-2-3) faceoff against #4 Delaware (12-0-1) this Friday and Saturday. The puck will drop at 7:30 on both nights.
All-Time Series: The Flames are 5-5-0 against the Blue Hens all time. Last season, however, the Flames dropped 3 of 4 matchups, including both games at home.
Scouting Liberty: Forward, Brent Boschman, who leads the Flames in points with 29 (9 goals, 20 assists), ranks second in the entire ACHA in both points and assists. Forward, Rick Turner, remains in third for the ACHA lead in goals with 16, and is averaging over a goal a game. Alternate captain, Andrew McCombe had a big weekend against Stony Brook, registering a hat trick in Saturday's game. The sophomore center is averaging a point a game with 15. Josh Cornelissen continues to hold down the fort on the blue line with 14 points, while senior, Seth Jensen leads Liberty in penalty minutes with 49. Clayton Brown, in net for the Flames, had a strong weekend picking up two wins and allowing only 4 goals on 39 shots.
Scouting Delaware: Delaware has not lost a game in regulation to this point in the season. Their only loss came at hands of #3 Arizona State in overtime. The Blue Hens have a trio of forwards who are consistently putting up points. Sophomore forward, Christian Tasker leads the entire team in points with 15 (8 goals, 7 assists), but right behind him is junior, Ryan McDonald who has 13 points. Another guy that will be on the Flames radar is Christopher Volonnino who not only has 11 points, but also leads the entire Blue Hens squad in penalty minutes with 20. Jason Michaud leads the Delaware defense crops in points with 10, but it is also worth noting that he has scored 20% of their powerplay goals. Delaware netminder, SJ Broadt has been extremely consistent in goal. He posts a 92% save percentage and a 2.16 GAA.
Previous Matchups: Last season Liberty dropped both games against Delaware at the Lahaye Ice Center, losing both games each by only one goal. Rick Turner scored a goal in both of those games, and Joe Smith added a tally as well. When Liberty traveled to Delaware in the second half of the season they were smashed on the way losing the first game by a 8-0 margin. However, the Flames rebounded in the second game of the series by winning by the score of 3-1. In that game, Blair Bennett made a whopping 41 saves in arguably his best performance of the season, and Brent Boschman, Rick Turner, and Andrew McCombe all scored goals for LU.
