Liberty University senior forwards Victor Blomberg, Jordan Bochinski, Andy Clarke, Cody Clarke, and Josh Hamilton, senior defensemen Garrett Nelson and Basil Reynolds, and junior forward Cole Gammer made the ACHA Division I men's hockey All-Academic Team for maintaining grade-point averages of 3.2 or better during their junior and senior years.
"I couldn't be more proud of those guys and the way that they've matured over their four years here," Flames Head Coach Kirk Handy said. "That's a tribute to the environment that we have at Liberty and how special it is."
He said as a team, over the past four years, Liberty's DI men's hockey team has raised its cumulative GPA by approximately 0.75 over the past four years to a 3.5 this past fall semester.
"Our team GPA has never been that high before," Handy said, noting that the Club Sports cumulative GPA reached a record-high 3.25 last semester. "It's a great system that (Club Sports Director of Academic Advancement) Sarah Kelly and her staff have in tracking our guys and creating accountability."
He noted that the academic staff has maintained a standard of excellence in monitoring student-athletes' progress even since COVID-19 shifted residential classes to an online format after Spring Break, with most working remotely.
"Sarah Morris and her team of have done an excellent job of keeping them on task, even being online," Handy said.
