Racquetball team finds rhythm for MACRC tourney at UNC

Liberty University's men's and women's racquetball teams racked up four first-place finishes and 11 third-place showings at its third Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Racquetball Conference (MACRC) tournament, played Jan. 24-26 at the University of North Carolina's Fetzer Gym in Chapel Hill, N.C.
On the men's side, junior Seth Kashuba and freshman Stephen Fitzgerald paired up to win the Division 3 Red doubles competition, while sophomore Trevor Melton and freshman Ryan Tomlinson finished first in the Division 2 White and Division 4 White singles brackets, respectively.
Third-place winners included the senior tandem of Garrison Walker and Seth Jordan in Division 1 doubles; the freshmen duo of Micah Clark and Ryan Tomlinson in the Division 4 Red doubles bracket; Jordan in Division 1 Red singles play; freshman David Gray in Division 3 Red singles; Fitzgerald in Division 3 White singles; and Kashuba in Division 4 Red singles.
Walker finished fourth in Division 2 Gold singles; Gray and Melton combined for a fifth-place showing in the Division 2 doubles bracket; and Clark placed fifth in Division 4 White singles play.
Graduate Kelsey Cox was the runner-up in the women's Division 3 White singles draw while junior Ivana Quintanilla placed third in Division 3 Red singles action. Senior Malia Kramolisch was the consolation champion in women's Division 1-2 singles, followed by Rachel Gay in fifth place. In Division 2 doubles, Gay and Kramolisch formed the third-place pair while Marston and Preston finished third in Division 3-4, followed by the fifth-place tandem of Quintanilla and Cox.
Liberty will return to UNC Chapel Hill for the Feb. 28-29 MACRC Tournament before sending its top players to the March 25-28 USA Racquetball Intercollegiate National Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
