Flames face fierce competition at JMU tournament

Competitive play marked the day for Liberty University's men's volleyball team Saturday at a tournament hosted by James Madison University.
Though the Flames only won two of their eight games in Harrisonburg, Va., their six losses were by a total of just 25 points, including two by 25-21 and 25-18 scores in an opening match against Virginia Tech, the No. 3-ranked team in the 2013 National Collegiate Volleyball Federation men's club volleyball poll.
Liberty then split two games against Old Dominion, winning the first 25-21 and dropping the second 25-22, before being swept by Team Arg., 25-23, 25-22. Freshman libero Josiah Williams made nine of his 22 digs on the day against Team Arg., adding an ace.
Finally, the Flames split games against George Mason, winning the opener 26-24 before falling by a 25-19 score in the second game. Senior outside hitter Jamie Stedjan spiked six kills with a .455 kill percentage and contributed two blocks and two digs against the Patriots and senior right side hitter Ethan Chase recorded seven kills, with a .385 percentage, and one dig.
