Tae Kwon Do Starts Semester Off in High Gear
January 21, 2013 | Liberty University
The semester started off in high gear with the Liberty University Tae Kwon Do Club. Starting with the Lady Flames, Leah Deaton was the first student to test and earn her yellow belt in the newly organized taekwondo club. In addition, the first class of the semester started off with enough students to nearly fill the wrestling facility. This is great for the club as there were only nine at the beginning of last semester.
Another exciting moment for the Liberty Taekwondo Club is the formation of the Virginia Collegiate Alliance of Tae Kwon Do or VCAT. Since there are no formal leagues in the southeastern U.S. Liberty University has teamed up with VA Tech, University of Virginia, William & Mary, American University, and Virginia Commonwealth University to form VCAT and has already scheduled several scrimmage matches in which all colleges will attend. Currently there are three scrimmages set; Feb. 9 at UVA, Feb. 23 at William & Mary, and March 30 at Virginia Tech. The Liberty Tae Kwon Do Club will be attending the Feb. 9 and March 30 scrimmages. This will give our team a chance to develop their skills against other colleges while the coaches discuss ways in which to promote the growth of VCAT and organize official tournaments.
