Men's Ultimate to host Hill City Hatter, Blue Ridge Open
November 7, 2017 | Lynchburg, Va.
After opening its Fall season in the Brickyard Brawl last month at North Carolina State, Liberty University's men's Ultimate team will host a Hill City Hatter co-ed tournament this Saturday and an Alumni Game on Sunday at the Liberty Mountain Intramural Complex on East Campus.
The Flames, who feature 16 freshmen this season, will then host their final collegiate tournament of the semester, the Blue Ridge Open on Dec. 2-3, when they will face several regional opponents they will contend with in the Spring semester. Liberty narrowly missed qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic Regionals for the first time in program history last season.
"Basically, we were one point away from regionals last year, losing in sudden-death (in the Virginia Conference Championships)," Liberty Head Coach Brendan Phillips said. "With the talent we have returning and what we have coming in, I would hope we could have a top-four or top-five finish in our conference, which would easily get us to regionals. Really, I would like to see us finish in the top 80 in the country, out of 500 teams, which would be our highest finish ever. From there, a top-10 finish at regionals would be great, so that's what we're targeting this year."
