Liberty University's men's and women's racquetball teams earned several top finishes at their season debut last weekend during a Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Racquetball Conference (MACRC) tournament hosted by the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Flames and Lady Flames, including seniors Seth Jordan (front) and team captain Sadie Abramowicz (back), played well on and had fun off the court at UNC.

There were 102 participants in the three-day tournament, representing eight colleges and universities in Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, eastern Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

In Division 1 men's play, the Flames' duo of sophomore Spensir Heath and senior Jacob Simrell won the men's doubles pool play bracket with teammates Daniel Seibler and James Paul Edwards finishing runner-up. Seibler finished third in the Olympic format men's singles Gold bracket. Edwards defeated Liberty senior Seth Jordan in the third-place match of the men's singles Division 1 Red bracket.

Heath also won the men's singles Division 2 Red bracket, and sophomore Garrison Walker placed third in that competition. Simrell won the men's singles Division 2 Blue bracket.

Meanwhile, in Division 3, junior Jaron Proehl and senior Christian Tinsley combined for a third-place showing in the men's doubles Gold bracket. Proehl also finished runner-up in the Division 3 Gold bracket.

In women's tournament play, Lady Flames senior Sadie Abramowicz captured first place in the Division 1/2 Gold bracket and teamed up with sophomore Danielle Pearson to place third in the women's doubles Division 1/2 Gold bracket, with the duo defeating Lady Flames junior Lindsey Marston and senior Caroline Morse in the consolation final.

Morse also finished runner-up in the women's singles Division 1/2 Blue bracket, with Pearson defeating Marston in the third-place final.

Liberty's Rebekah Olson also placed third in the women's singles Division 3/4 White bracket and joined North Carolina State's Kaitlyn Roberts to place fourth in the women's doubles Division 3/4 Red bracket.

In the alumni/coaches/faculty doubles competition, Flames Head Coach Daniel Rodriguez and Assistant Coach Shawn Furman captured first place. Furman also finished runner-up in singles play.

Liberty will travel to its next MACRC tournament from Oct. 28-29 at North Carolina State.
