Varsity Club members invited to Aug. 26 Fan Fest event
August 8, 2017 | Lynchburg, Va.
As Liberty University's football program prepares to transition from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level over the next two seasons, the Varsity Club is looking to drum up support for the Flames and bolster its membership in the process.
All members of Liberty's Varsity Club, which includes graduates of Club Sports programs, are invited to an exclusive pregame tailgate held in conjunction with the Aug. 26 Football Fan Fest.
That sixth-annual festival highlighted by the Flames' final scrimmage before their Sept. 2 season-opener at Baylor, starts at 7 p.m. at Williams Stadium and is open to Flames fans of all ages. The pre-scrimmage tailgate will be held at 6 p.m. in the stadium's Club Level Pavilion and is open only to Varsity Club members and their families. It will include a cookout-style meal, door prizes and other giveaways, and will conclude with a tour of Liberty's new Indoor Football Practice Facility.
"This is the first Varsity Club event that will be exclusive to former athletes, and this is just the beginning," said Adam Godwin, Liberty's director of Alumni Relations for Athletics.
Tickets are $3 per person and must be reserved online by Aug. 22 (use the code FANFEST17). Alumni who have not yet joined the Varsity Club may order tickets online and sign up for club membership at the event.
"If someone is not in the Varsity Club but is a former student-athlete, they are welcome to come and sign up and participate," said Kaleb VanDePerre, Club Sports' Coordinator of Varsity Club & Events. "We're hoping to give back to the former athletes and connect them with other alumni and everything that is out there for them to do here.."
The Varsity Club is designed to build relationships between former NCAA and Club Sports student-athletes and to keep them connected to Liberty's thriving and rapidly growing athletics programs.
Roughly half of the approximately 1,500 Varsity Club members are alumni of NCAA Division I programs with the other half made up of graduates from Club Sports teams.
Membership, also available online, is free and includes discounts on season tickets to NCAA home games, free Flames Club membership at the Member Level or a $60 discount toward a higher level of membership, admittance to Flames Club tailgates prior to home football games, and discounted admission to Flames Club luncheons.
