Liberty wrestles big weekend

Two tournaments were on the slate for the Liberty University wrestling team last weekend, beginning with the Southern Virginia University Quad Meet on Saturday, Nov. 3, and concluding with the Virginia Tech Open on Saturday.

On Saturday the Flames outscored Truett McConnell University 42-16 and Southern Virginia University 54-3.

Freshman Peter Tatanish (149 lbs.) went 3-0 on the day, which included a triumph over returning MAC conference champion Sean Porter by a score of 7-1. Senior Jonathan Perkins (174 lbs.) and freshman Jacob Hood (197 lbs.) each went 3-0 on Saturday as well.

In Blacksburg, Va., Sunday, Flames wrestlers competed individually, facing players from 19 NCAA programs, including Division I powerhouse Virginia Tech, ranked No. 13 in the country.

Royal Brettrager, the 184-pound junior, highlighted the Flames' performance with a 2-2 record. Sophomore Ryan Miller (133 lbs.) went 1-2 on the day, as did 157-pound freshman Chase Boontjer.
