Five Flames scored Saturday night as the Liberty University Division II men's hockey team earned a hard fought 5-2 win over the Maryland Terrapins on the road. The win was Liberty's seventh in a row.
DJ Dinnison got the scoring started for the Flames, taking a pass and slipping it past Terps goalie Kevin Russell in the first period. Late in the opening frame Jeff Boschman pushed Liberty's lead to 2-0.
Peter Kazmierczak increased the lead to 3-0 in the second period, before Maryland was able to break through for their first goal of the night. Neal Henderson restored the three-goal advantage late in the second, sending Liberty to the locker room up 4-1.
Maryland was able to close the gap to two midway through the third period, but Bobby Cervone put in his fifth goal of the season, to close the scoring.
Nick Devine picked up the win for Liberty, while Russell took the loss for Maryland.
Liberty looks to continue its streak as it faces Virginia Tech in a home and home series next weekend. Friday night's game is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center, and the Flames return to the LaHaye Ice Center Saturday to close the series at home, starting at 2:45 p.m.
