DII Flames scorch Duke
September 22, 2012 | Lynchburg, Va.
Four Flames scored a pair of goals as the Liberty University men's Division II hockey team dominated the Duke Blue Devils 12-0 in their ACHA opener Saturday night in the LaHaye Ice Center.
The Flames broke the game open in the second period, as freshman Nate Arbour beat Fu off a nice feed to the slot by Semiao to put Liberty up 3-0, and then Semiao picked up his second of the night off a rebound from a Brad Docksteader shot.
Caleb Allison scored from the left point less than 30 seconds later and the Flames found themselves ahead 5-0.
With under a minute to go in the second period, Docksteader scored, giving Liberty a 6-0 advantage going into the final break.
The Flames turned up the heat in the third, scoring six more goals, including two from freshman Peter Kazmierczak, another from Allison, and the first career goals for freshmen Kyle Davis and Richie Johnstone.
Docksteader closed out the night, ripping one past Fu on the glove side.
"This was a good night because we got to work on fundamentals that were lacking last week," said Chris Lowes, Flames head coach. "We did a lot better in some key areas, like controlling rebounds and keeping the turnovers down, and it paid off."
Trenton MacDonald went all 60 in the pipes for Liberty to pick up his second win of the season and his first shutout.
Liberty gets the next 13 days off before returning to action on Oct. 5, when the North Carolina State Wolfpack come to the LaHaye Ice Center as part of the 2012 Homecoming festivities. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
