Sophomore Joseph Anderson won the Patriots Sprint Triathlon in Williamsburg, Va., on Sept. 9. The men's triathlon team finished fourth overall and the women finished sixth in the collegiate division in their first race of the season.

Anderson, from Washington D.C., finished the course, winning by 34 seconds with a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, 18 seconds. It consisted of a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5-kilometer run.

Teammate Blake Williams finished 23rd in 1:12:22.

On the women's side, sophomore Lane Ruchte led the way, finishing ninth with a time of 1:21:52 and Katie Mullaly finished 20th in 1:24:51.

"This is definitely a ‘growing year' for us, but the future sure looks promising," said head coach Beth Frackleton. "I believe this team has great potential and by spring of 2013, will be very competitive."

After a week off, the Flames will next be in action at the Wilmington YMCA Triathlon in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., on Sept. 22 at 7 a.m.
