Women's D2 Play at the Verizon Center
October 23, 2011 | Verizon Center, Washington D.C.
The Women's DII team travelled to Washington DC to take on the United States Naval Academy for the first meet between both clubs. The weekend consisted of two back-to-back games, and proved to be a battle between teams.
The first game was held in the Washington Capitals home rink, the Verizon Center, where a hard played game was won by Liberty with 2 minutes left in the game to walk away with a 4-3 win. This win marked the first win for the new Women's DII Hockey Club Sport. Liberty then travelled to Navy's home rink, McMullen Hockey Arena, where the Olympic size ice proved to be a challenge. Liberty played catch-up the whole game where they were always a goal behind. With 1 minute left in the game, the ladies managed to fight back and tie the game 3-3. Liberty and Navy then went into overtime, but with many chances for both teams no one prevailed. The second match up concluded with a 3-3 tie.
The ladies walked away with 3 out of 4 possible points and are currently in 2nd place in their division.
Liberty will host Villanova Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 4:00pm at the LaHaye Ice Center. It is a FREE event for everyone! For live updates check outhttp://www.dvchcwomenshockey.org/
