Flames finish in top four at eight-team tournament at UNC

Liberty University's racquetball team had an excellent weekend of competition at the Nov. 15-17 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Racquetball Conference tournament hosted by at the University of North Carolina.
The event featured 60 collegiate players from Appalachian State University, Duke University, Liberty, University of Maryland, UNC, North Carolina State University, University of Virginia, and Virginia Military Institute.
"This was a very good tournament for Liberty, with all players earning individual points and adding to the overall team (standings)," Flames Head Coach Danny Rodriguez said. "Each player finished fourth or better with many playing in the finals in their respective divisions."
In the men's collegiate doubles Level 2 Gold Division, Liberty seniors Joel Denney and Ryan Evans placed second, as junior David Schreck and sophomore Eric Piering did in the Level 3 Gold Division and senior D.J. Judd and Sophomore Sean Mackey did in the Level 4 Gold Division.
Denney also placed second and Evans fourth in the men's collegiate singles Level 2 Gold Division, with Piering taking third in the Level 3 Gold Division, Schreck winning the Level 3 Blue Division, and Judd and sophomore Blake Peterson placing first and second, respectively, in Level 4 Blue.
The Lady Flames had three tandems place in women's collegiate doubles — freshman Abigail Lindsey and senior Brooke Morley (second); senior Courtney Sharp and sophomore Meredith Blake (third); and Kathryn Aylett and Monica Elder (fourth).
Lindsey and Morley also teamed up to win Level 2 doubles as Sharpe and Blake did at Leveand Aylett and Elder did at Level 4.
Morley and Lindsey placed second and fourth, respectively, in women's collegiate singles Level 1 and 2 combined and first and second in Level 2. Sharp, Elder, and Blake placed second, third, and fourth, respectively in Level 3 and 4 Gold combined singles and Aylett win the Level 3 and 4 Red combined division.
Liberty's next scheduled MACRC tournament is Jan. 30 through Feb. 2 at N.C. State.
