A day after scoring the game-winning and insurance goals to help complete a sweep at UMass, Liberty University ACHA Division I women's hockey senior forward Aly Morris netted the second hat trick of her career in Saturday afternoon's 6-0 rout of Rhode Island at Boss Arena in South Kingstown, R.I.

"It was a big night for Aly Morris, showing her offensive prowess," Head Coach Chris Lowes said, noting that it was her first three-goal performance since her freshman season in a game against Penn State. "She seemed to be dialed in and made the most of her opportunities."

The Lady Flames (7-1) outshot the Lady Rams, 41-16, and senior goalie Nadia Rupoli (3-1) posted her second shutout of the season.

"That is back-to-back shutouts for Rupoli, who has been very solid," Lowes said.

Senior forward Vanessa DeMerchant started the scoring with the first of Liberty's two goals in the first period, assisted by sophomore forward Grace Machholz and junior forward Danica Polson.

Morris doubled the Lady Flames' lead to 2-0 with her first goal, assisted by senior defenseman Emily John, before both teams were held scoreless in the second period.

Morris picked up where she left off in the third, scoring the first two of Liberty's four goals in the period. She finished a feed from freshman forward Val Manchak, the Lady Flames' leading scorer on the season, to extend the lead to 3-0 before completing her hat trick with a power-play goal off an assist from junior forward Shelby Bradford.

"We needed Aly's finish tonight as we were struggling with our touch around the net for the first two periods," Lowes said. "Our power play unit was a little better, going 2-for-4, so that was a bright spot."

Junior forward Danica Polson smiles as she skates around a Rhode Island defenseman last season.

Polson connected off an assist from Machholz to stretch the Lady Flames' advantage to 5-0 before senior forward Rachel Gibson put away assists from Bradford and freshman forward Yannick Truter to cap the scoring.

The Lady Flames and Lady Rams will clash on the ice again on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

"It has been a solid road trip, but we need to finish strong in our fourth game (Sunday) morning," Lowes said.
