DIII hockey stretches unbeaten streak to 13

The Liberty University Division III men's hockey team outscored opponents 36-10 in its last five games, extending its win streak to 13 and concluding play in 2012 on a high note. The Flames are ranked eighth in the South according to the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association rankings.
The Flames hosted Maryland for a pair of games Dec. 1-2 to finish up their 2012 slate, beating the Terrapins 4-1 and 5-0, respectively. Goalie John Hyland recorded the first shutout of the year for Liberty.
The weekend of Nov. 16-17 the Flames split time between the road and home, first facing Radford in the Roanoke Civic Center in a 4-3 win and then hosting Northern Virginia Community College for an eventual 13-2 rout. The NVCC game marked the sixth time Liberty put double-digits on the scoreboard this season and the third time in as many weekends.
The Flames began the month of November with a pair of wins on the road Nov. 2-3, first at Old Dominion 10-1 and then against Virginia Commonwealth in Glen Allen, Va., by a score of 3-1. Liberty then handed George Mason George Mason a 10-4 loss at the Ice Center on Nov. 10.
Hyland (6-0) and Byron Cary (7-1) have shared time in the net. Hyland has a 1.98 goals against average and a .91 save percentage and Cary a 2.11 GAA and .92 percent save percentage.
Liberty enters Christmas break at 14-0-1 and will resume play at home Jan. 18, 2013 when the College of William & Mary comes to town. Game time is set for 11 p.m.
