DII Flames top Saint Joe's, fall to Rider

After outscoring Saint Joseph's University 6-1 at home on Nov. 30, the Liberty Flames Division II men's hockey team returned to its home ice the following night to face Rider University, coming up short on the scoreboard in a 4-2 contest.
Rider put the first goal in with 3:02 remaining in the opening period, but the Flames flipped the script on the visiting Broncos in the second period.
About halfway through the second frame, Peter Kazmierczak put Liberty on the board, assisted by Brad Docksteader and Josh King. Late in the period the Flames took the lead as Docksteader put one home. Clinton Nigh and Nate Arbour assisted on the play.
Despite holding the advantage entering the final period and holding the Broncos scoreless in the first 10 minutes, Liberty gave up two scores in less than a minute, putting Rider in winning position. Liberty was unable to even the score as time expired and Broncos would score again on an empty net with 21 seconds remaining to secure the victory.
Justin Gortman went the distance for Liberty to take the loss.
The night before Liberty held the Hawks of Saint Joseph's scoreless for nearly 40 minutes and scored four unanswered goals to prime a victory.
In the second, the Flames continued to pour on the offense, beginning with a Kazmierczak goal at 7:13. King and Nigh were tallied the assist. Dinnision posted a goal with two minutes left off an assist from Richie Johnstone to put Liberty up 4-0 before the Hawks finally managed a goal at 1:14 in the second.
Liberty held Saint Joe's off in the third and put two more in to lock up the win. Lucas Ebel scored the first one at 11:46, assisted by Arbour and Kazmierczak. Johnstone gave the Flames a sixth goal with three-and-a-half to go in the game with Docksteader and Kazmierczak assisting.
Gortman posted 21 saves in 60 minutes for the win.
The Flames will wrap up 2012 play at home Friday as Georgetown University comes to visit. Game time is set for 4:45 p.m.
