Flames win both games in home tournament
October 27, 2012 | Lynchburg, Va.
The Liberty Flames men's lacrosse team took the field for the first, and only, time this fall, winning two games in dominating fashion as it hosted the first Liberty Fall Shootout Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 27.
With 10 freshmen on the roster, it was important for Flames Head Coach Kyle McQuillan to see the new additions in action, and the new players did not disappoint. Liberty won both of its games by double-digit margins, 13-1 over crosstown rival Lynchburg College and 18-4 over Southern Virginia University.
Liberty took the field again Saturday afternoon and faced the Knights of Southern Virginia, a team the Flames defeated 21-6 last season. The Flames continued its offensive fireworks display, scoring the first eight goals of the match.
Miller and Tobias each scored 4 goals in Liberty's second matchup. Bryce Mrakovich had a hat trick, John Ferris and Craig Darling finished with a pair of goals each, and Skylar Sipe added a goal to round out the scoring.
Liberty will officially kick off the regular season Feb. 16, 2013 as The Citadel makes the trek up to the Liberty Lacrosse Fields for a noon matchup.
