October 20, 2012  |  Boston, Mass.

The Liberty University varsity women's four made a trip to Boston, Mass., to compete in the 48th annual Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River Oct. 19-20.

The Head of the Charles is the largest two-day crew race in the world, with boats from all over the country and some foreign nations converging to participate in the history-rich tradition. More than 9,000 athletes participate in 55 different races, with more than 300,000 spectators lining the river over the two days. Boat clubs, NCAA programs, and college club teams compete for one of the coveted guaranteed spots in the next year's race.

Liberty made its second appearance in the prestigious race, sending one boat. The boat, comprised of Arielle Ross, Abigail Lenz, Lindsey Churchill, Kylie Peterson, and coxswain Anna Hickman, finished 27th in the 45-boat field with a time of 20:51.85 for the women's club four race. Liberty was the top finishing collegiate club team in the race, finishing ahead of schools like Penn State, Colgate University, Hofstra University, and the Harvard Business School.

"This was a very competitive field," said Flames Head Coach Ryan Hurley. "This race was another big step in the right direction for this squad. It's also another exciting sign of things to come for the team as we move forward this season."

The full team will next be in action at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta near Fairfax, Va., Nov. 3.
