Liberty prepares for ACHA DI showcase this weekend

The Liberty Flames Division I Men's Hockey team will travel to Springfield, Ill., this weekend to participate in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I Showcase, hoping to build on an eight game winning streak. The Flames will face three ranked teams over the course of the weekend, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 7 Minot State, and No. 11 Robert Morris (Ill.) at the three-day event.
Game 9: Liberty vs. No. 6 Oklahoma
Matchup: The Liberty Flames (8-0) open the weekend facing off with the sixth ranked Sooners (4-0) Friday night at 6:45 p.m. at the Nelson Center in Springfield.
Scouting Liberty: Liberty is coming off a sweep of Robert Morris (Pa.) winning the two matchups 12-1 and 11-2. Rick Turner had a hat trick in both games for Liberty and is first in the country in goals (17) and points (26), and ranks fourth in the country in assists (9). Kyle Garcia is No. 1 among freshmen in goals (8), assists (6), and points (14). Clayton Brown leads the way in goal for the Flames; ranking first in the country in wins (5) and tied for second in minutes played (300).
Scouting Oklahoma: The Sooners are off to a hot start, outscoring their opponents 37-5 in their first four games this season. Sophomore Darrell Boldon leads the way for Oklahoma with six goals and seven points. Freshman Jordan Greenberg has eight points (4 goals and 4 assists) and leads a balanced scoring attack for the Sooners. Sophomore Colin Fernandes is top goalie with a three wins in three starts and a sterling 0.86 goals against average.
Previous Matchups: Oklahoma rallied from down 2-0 to defeat Liberty 3-2 at the Blazers Center in Oklahoma City, Nov. 17, 2011.
All Time Series: Oklahoma leads the all-time series between the two teams 7-6-5. Five of the Sooners wins in the series have come in overtime.
Coaches: Kirk Handy, in his 13th season as head coach of the Flames, has a record of 265-107-13. Peter Arvanitis is in his second season as head coach with Oklahoma after serving as an assistant for the 2005-2006 season. He comes into the showcase with a 30-13-2 overall record.
Game 10: Liberty vs. No. 7 Minot State
Matchup: The Flames have their first meeting with the Minot State Beavers (3-0) on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
Scouting Minot State: The Beavers come into the Showcase following a pair of wins (5-0 and 4-1) over the Briercrest College Clippers (coached by former Liberty Flames goalie Dalton Stoltz). Sophomore Logan Herauf leads the Beavers in points (6) and is tied for the lead in goals (2). Junior Wyatt Waselenchuk is the top netminder with two wins and a 1.00 GAA

Coaches: Wade Regier is in his eighth season at the helm for MSU with an overall record of 57-6-5.
Game 11: Liberty vs. No. 11 Robert Morris (Ill.)
Matchup: Liberty (8-0) closes the weekend with a matchup against the 11th-ranked Eagles Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
Scouting Robert Morris (Ill.): Robert Morris enters the showcase with a 3-0-1 record after splitting a pair with Eastern Michigan University by identical 4-3 scores. Junior Gehrett Sargis leads the Eagles in both goals (4) and points (7). Sophomore Andy DiCristofaro is the top goaltender for RMU with a 3-0-1 record and a 2.45 GAA.
Previous Matchups: Liberty claimed a 5-3 victory over the Eagles at the 2011 ACHA Division I Showcase. Lindsay LeBlanc had a pair of goals and Blair Bennett made 34 saves to give the Flames the victory.
All Time Series: Liberty leads the all time series 5-0.
Coaches: Tom Adrahatas is in his fifth season at RMU. He carries an 81-54-3 record into the weekend.
