The Liberty Flames Division II men's hockey team completed a dominating weekend sweep, routing the Hampton Jr. B Whalers 11-1 on Saturday. Liberty beat Hampton Friday night 9-1.

Senior Caleb Allison got things started off a feed from Seth Adams and beat Whalers starter Brett Fordam seven minutes into the game to put Liberty up 1-0.

D.J. Dinnison started what would be a banner night with a goal six minutes later to put Liberty up 2-0.

Freshman Richie Johnstone lit the lamp for the first time in his career early in the second period off an assist from Bobby Cervone. Just three minutes later, Brad Docksteader notched his fourth goal of the weekend off a rebound to put Liberty up 4-0.

The Whalers finally got one in as Will Burder scored on the power play to cut the margin to 4-1.

After that it was all Flames as Drew Muir scored a minute later to increase the advantage back to four and a mere 10 seconds later, Docksteader notched his second goal of the night, putting Liberty ahead 6-1.

Dinnison took a pass from John Cotton and beat Christopher Diaz, who came in to relieve Fordham, and after two periods the Flames were up 7-1

The onslaught continued in the third as Josh King got his second goal of the weekend on a rush off a feed from fellow freshman Jeremy Martin to put Liberty up 8-1.

Before the ink was even dry on that goal, Dinnison completed a hat trick off a Docksteader feed to put Liberty up 9-1.

Cotton got in on the scoring off a Dinnison assist with three minutes to go, and Bobby Cervone closed the scoring with a on- time goal off a Martin feed to set the final score.

The Flames outshot the Whalers 40-26, and senior goaltender Trenton MacDonald notched the win, making 10 saves, and Justin Gortman took over in the second and did not allow a goal on 13 shots faced.

Liberty is back at the Ice Center for another doubleheader as the Atlanta Jr. B Knights come to Lynchburg Sept. 14-15. The first game begins at 10 p.m. Friday night.
