Jonathan Mast
Head CoachCollege: Liberty University
Start Date: 08/01/2014
Jonathan is entering his fifth season as the coach for the Liberty University Women's Ultimate (LUWU) team. He is originally from Winter Garden, Florida, and graduated from Liberty University with a BS in Business Marketing in 2012. He has five brothers, four of which, have also graduated from Liberty University. He and his wife, Ashley, met at LU on the Ultimate Frisbee field and now coach the program together.
He began playing ultimate in middle school at the age of 12 years old, having been introduced to the sport at a summer camp. He has been actively playing ever since (both recreationally and competitively). He played football, basketball, golf, and paintball throughout high school, but ultimate became his passion when he began college. During his junior year at Liberty, he cofounded the Ultimate Frisbee Teams at LU in fall, 2010. After graduation, he began coaching LUWU in fall, 2013 at which point, their national ranking was 145th. Over the past 4 seasons, it has become a top 30 team in the country, top 5 in the region, and 2nd in the conference.
Before and after playing for the Flames, Jonathan played club ultimate with various travel teams: The Huckstables, Sloths, YAK, and Legion (a Lynchburg based, co-ed club team that he and Ashley both play for). He also helps coordinate Ultimate tournaments, leagues, and pick up groups in the community. Aside from Ultimate, he and his wife love to camp, hike, canoe, and enjoy anything outdoors.
