The Master of Arts in Music Education is a 36-hour program that applies a practical foundation of music, music education, and research to the educational environment.  Unique to this degree is specialized instruction in advanced music techniques and applied performance studies.

  • Study with nationally recognized music education specialists and professionals
  • Receive instruction in music education theories, philosophies, and methodology
  • Learn conducting from well-known and respected professionals
  • Experience specialized training strategically designed for the music education classroom
  • Study voice, piano, guitar, strings, bass, woodwind, percussion instruments, songwriting, and conducting in private lessons
  • Pursue a research-based degree while remaining active in the field of music educator
  • Prepare to enter a doctoral program in music education

Requirements

  • $50 application fee (beginning Fall 2016, the application fee will be deferred and assessed during Financial Check-In)
  • Regionally or nationally accredited Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent in music, music education, or music and worship with at least a 3.0 GPA (2.50-2.99 may be admitted on caution)
    • Official College Transcripts (must be mailed directly from your college to Liberty University in an official, sealed envelope or sent via an official electronic sending service such as E-Script, Parchment, National Clearinghouse, etc.)

    • If you would like for Liberty University to request that your college transcripts be submitted and do not have a current balance at your university, please complete the Transcript Request Form (for domestic students only).
  • Recommender Contact Information (for one academic or professional reference)
  • Statement of Purpose (500 words or less) explaining your purpose for pursuing this degree. Consider the following in your response: how is this degree going to help you in your ministry and/or vocation; what do you hope to learn through this process; and, what do you hope to do with this degree after graduation?
  • Self Certification Form (for students in the final term of their bachelor's degree)
  • Current Liberty undergraduate students seeking preliminary acceptance into a graduate program must complete a Graduation Application through their ASIST Account.
