August Parent E-Newsletter

Brought to you by the Parent and Family Connections Office

We are excited about welcoming all of the new and returning Liberty University students onto campus.  An incredible experience is in store for them and as a Liberty parent or guardian, you can play an important role in making that happen. Here are a few reminders and information to help you prepare for Fall 2013.

Career Center

Our services help your student discover their profession. The FOCUS 2 career assessment helps them choose their major at Liberty and make informed decisions about their career. This is accomplished through five self-assessments, career and college major exploration, action planning, and decision making. We encourage students to set up an appointment with a career counselor to go over results, which are then matched to career options and programs offered at Liberty.

Annual Community Welcome Fair

Encourage your student to attend the welcome fair Aug. 15 from noon-4 p.m. in the Vines Center. This event will introduce incoming freshmen to the many incredible opportunities Lynchburg has to offer. We have a number of employers and business owners planning to attend this event. We hope to see your student there as well!

Student Advocate Office

We are excited to have your student studying at Liberty. In order to ensure a seamless move onto campus, please remind them to check their Liberty email for housing move-in times.

The first day of classes is Monday, Aug. 19, and the add/drop deadline is Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. It is extremely important that your student be registered for at least 12 credit hours by Friday, Aug. 23, in order to be eligible for Liberty’s institutional aid. After this date, dropping a course will result in a “W” as a grade in that course. Contact us at (434) 582-7200 if you have questions about the impact of individual class withdrawals. Please refer to the complete Academic Calendar for other important 2013-14 academic year dates.

If you need assistance, contact the Student Advocate Office (SAO) at (434) 582-7200 or studentadvocate@liberty.edu. Have your student’s ID number and FERPA PIN number (established by your student through A.S.I.S.T.) to discuss account specifics.

Housing

Your student will find the official move-in dates for residence halls on the academic calendar, however information about move-in time assignments and any updates to their expected move-in time or date will be sent to their Liberty email. If they would like to request an earlier check-in date they may request early arrival ($15 a day) at www.Liberty.edu/Housing.
