Career Center

It is important that students learn to market themselves when preparing for a career. The Career Center can help your student develop their academic and career goals as well as polish their résumé through career assessments, research, and workshops. Career counselors and employer-relations professionals are dedicated to guiding your student through a variety of services such as résumé critiques, career counseling, job and internship searches, and professional development.

We are open year-round here on Liberty’s campus and online through the Virtual Career Center. We strive to keep you updated on our upcoming industry-specific career fairs, so continue to check our website for current information. If you have any specific questions regarding our services, feel free to contact us at (434) 592-4109 or careers@liberty.edu. The Career Center is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in DeMoss Hall, Room 1007.

New ASLI Major and Interpreting Services Offered

Liberty is excited to inform you that we are now offering a major in American Sign Language and Interpreting (ASLI)! The goal of the program is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become effective professional sign language interpreters.  ASL is arguably the fourth most-used language in the United States, and there is a well-documented national shortage of qualified Sign Language interpreters. Liberty is rising to meet this need by becoming the first institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia to offer a Bachelor of Arts in American Sign Language and Interpreting.

Along with this new major, Liberty is extending its current sign language interpreting services to the Lynchburg community through Liberty University Interpreting Services (LUIS). LUIS is a team of highly skilled professional interpreters helping to meet the growing demand for interpreting services in corporate, medical, mental health, and educational settings.

LUIS will naturally grow as more graduates earn their certifications and become professional sign language interpreters. To further this effort, ASLI students can intern at LUIS for additional training. Contact us at (434) 592-4016 or LUDeafDept@liberty.edu for information about the ASLI major or the LUIS program.
