Ronald E. Hawkins, D.Min., Ed.D.

Dr. Hawkins came to Liberty in 1978 as a Professor teaching Bible and Homiletics. He soon became Chairmen of the Department of Church Ministries. He started the Masters of Counseling program which has become one of Liberty’s largest online and residential programs.

He served as Dean of the Seminary and then Dr. Hawkins went west to become President of Western Seminary and later was Associate Pastor at Grand Rapids Church in Michigan with Ed Dobson.  He returned to Liberty in 2000 to be Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and in 2006 joined the Provost’s Office and worked especially on the development of Liberty’s online program with Dr. Ronald Godwin and the development of many programs in the residential university.

Dr. Hawkins has written extensively in the area of marriage and Biblical counseling, he has been married to his wife Peg for 52 years and they have 4 children. He has 9 grandchildren two of whom are presently enrolled at Liberty University. He is presently serving as Provost and Founding Dean of School of Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Hawkins received a B.A. from Barrington College, a M.Div. from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, a D.Min. from Westminister Theological Seminary, an Education Specialists degree from Lynchburg College and an Ed.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoys walking and running

Carla Jones

Carla earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech in 1981 and has worked in various administrative and sales positions since. Her experience includes working in personnel, customer service, selling “intangible commercial spots” in radio, and real estate. She also worked in the Planning Department of the worldwide headquarters for the Navy Exchange Service Command and prior to moving to Lynchburg in June of 2013, she led women’s Bible studies and was the Church Administrator for a number of years at a church in Williamsburg, VA. Outside of Liberty University Carla works alongside of her husband, Dan Jones, handling the accounting and administrative support for his home repairs and renovations company. They have two adult daughters, one son-in-law, and two grandsons who keep Carla hopping.

Jennifer Griffin

Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost

Majoring in Psychology with a minor in Health Promotions, Jennifer earned her B.S. from Liberty University in 2005. Currently, she is working towards a Counseling degree in the Liberty University Online program. After graduating from her undergraduate work from Liberty, Jennifer worked at a treatment center as a counselor for children with behavioral and emotional disorders. This challenging but very rewarding work led her to pursue further education as she looks forward to learning more about how to help lead people to a healthy life in Christ. Before becoming Dr. Hawkins’ assistant, Jennifer worked in Academic Support and with the LUO Office of Disability.

Erin attended Word of Life Bible Institute for two years and then received her Bachelor’s degree in Bible/Missions from Appalachian Bible College where she met and then married her husband, Orlando. Prior to moving to Lynchburg in 2001, Erin and her husband were serving in full-time missions/church ministries in Miami and then Chicago. The Lord brought them to Liberty to pursue further education and the move stuck. Since 2001, Erin has worked in several departments at Liberty including, Dr. Falwell’s office, Marketing, and College of General Studies.  She and her husband have three beautiful daughters.

Julie Parrow

Julie earned her B.S. in Marketing and Communications from Babson College.  She worked as a marketing manager in the healthcare field for ten years before taking over the office  functions for her husband’s landscape design and construction business.  Upon selling their family farm in Connecticut, the Lord brought them to Lynchburg in the summer of 2014.  She and her husband have three daughters. Julie joined our Provost Office team in the fall of 2015.

Kate Calland began her career at Liberty University as the Intensive Coordinator for the Distance Learning Program in 2001.  In 2006 she joined the Office of Institutional Effectiveness as the Director of Academic Operations, where she is responsible for calculating and tracking faculty workload.  Prior to joining Liberty University, Kate served four years in the Air Force.

A native of Ohio who subsequently lived in North Carolina for over 20 years, the Lord prompted Suzanne and her family to relocate in Lynchburg in 2014.  Prior to joining Liberty University in 2015 as the Faculty Load Coordinator, she worked in the commercial property management and mortgage industries for the previous 20+ years.  Away from work, when she isn’t spending time with her husband, Mike, and their three teenage children, she enjoys doing anything creative, such as scrapbooking, photography or home renovations.

Craig Hammond

Craig Hammond holds his A.A. in Business, B.S. in Accounting and M.S. in Accounting. While putting himself through school, Craig worked as a manager for a local bank, and was also a member of Liberty University’s Accounting Society. Craig has worked as the Coordinator for Academic Operations for The Graduate School since 2011, and he now works in this same role under the Office of The Vice Provost for Academic Operations. He and his wife, who also works at Liberty, live in Lynchburg, Virginia and recently had their second child.

Audrey Knight

A native of Lynchburg, Audrey earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Liberty University in 2013. She proceeded to acquire her teaching license in the state of Virginia. After graduating, Audrey worked as a dance instructor and office manager at Dance and Music Creations in Lynchburg. She also taught in Lynchburg City Schools and Campbell County Schools as a substitute teacher. Audrey worked in the School of Education at Liberty before becoming Dr. Gutierrez’ assistant. She continues to serve as a dance instructor at Dance and Music Creations. 

Sydney Miller

Sydney first came to Liberty University as an undergraduate student in the fall of 2006.  Originally from Buffalo, New York, Sydney quickly found the southern hospitality and beautiful weather of Lynchburg, Virginia were much preferable to her northern roots and decided to stay after graduating in 2010 with her B.S. in Family and Child Development.  She has worked for Liberty University ever since, first as the assistant to, and now currently as the Online Hiring Coordinator. She considers it a great honor to be a part of the mission of LU, training Champions for Christ.


Karen McLaughlin

Karen graduated in May 2013 with her B.S. in Business Administration in Human Resource Management and is currently pursuing her M.B.A. in Project Management. Prior to becoming the Assistant Faculty Load Coordinator, she worked in the Center for Multicultural Enrichment as the Administrative Assistant to the Director for two years. Karen has a heart for both music and ministry and is currently assisting in leading Ema Ministries in downtown Lynchburg, which is a non-profit that focuses on encouraging and equipping young, single moms through the Gospel. In addition to working with Ema, Karen plays the violin and sings and enjoys occasionally leading worship for both her church and youth retreats. She would like to use her business degrees in the future to continue working with non-profit ministries.
