LCA expects record enrollment

February 7, 2008 : Mitzi Bible

Liberty Christian Academy has announced it expects record numbers for the 2008-2009 school year. With about 2,000 students, the school will be at full capacity.

“We’ll be at maximum utilization of this facility,” said Todd Campo, superintendent.

Just three years ago, when the school moved to its new location on Liberty Mountain, it had 900 students.

“We’re the largest private school in the state of Virginia,” Campo said.

The anticipation of more students has forced the school to make some structural changes, including revamping and adding classrooms out of the existing facility, expanding the vocational education area and putting a second deck on the cafeteria. The changes will take place this summer and be in place before school starts on Sept. 2.

Today is the first day for re-enrollment for existing students and will run through Feb. 29.

On March 3, the school will start enrollment for new students.

Campo said there are already 100 new families waiting to enroll their children. He said for the first time, the school will have to cap numbers (specific to each grade level) and put some families on a waiting list.

He said LCA is obviously an attractive option for area families. “People are looking for a values-rich curriculum,” he said. “We really offer everything a public school offers, but we provide it in a Christian environment. And we have a high standard of conduct.”
