The late Dr. Jerry Falwell once called evangelist Dr. Bailey Smith one of the all-time great evangelists.
Smith has served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention and preached in nearly every state. In Monday’s convocation, the evangelist who is also a member of the Liberty University Board of Trustees spoke to LU students about lessons to be learned from the biblical account of Jonah.
Jonah, who was called to preach in Nineveh, fled from God’s direction. It took a storm and being swallowed by a big fish to get Jonah’s attention and put him back on God’s track.
“Don’t rationalize yourself out of God’s will,” Smith said.
Before the message, Campus Pastor Dwayne Carson told students that he came to know the Lord because of a sermon Smith preached at Criswell Bible College in Dallas, Texas, years ago.
