A noteworthy political force spoke at the Liberty University School of Law on Wednesday.
Howard Phillips, founder and chairman of The Conservative Caucus (TCC), delivered an address on “The Constitution of the United States Versus the New World Order” in the law school’s Supreme Courtroom.
“I wanted to encourage people to study the constitution and recognize that its plain language is still operative and relevant today. ... A substantial portion of the problems facing our country would be addressed if we adhered to the constitution,” said Phillips.
A 1962 graduate of Harvard College, Phillips founded the U.S. Taxpayers Party (USTP) in 1992, hoping to offer America leadership committed to returning American jurisprudence to its original “common law” Biblical foundations. He has also written and published four books.
“When I was a Liberty student, Howard was instrumental in encouraging Liberty students to become involved in politics,” said Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. “Many of us went to law school because of his encouragement. He’s been a leader of the conservative movement for decades. He’s one of the [people] who helped my father form the Moral Majority and encouraged him to get involved, so it’s an honor to have him on campus.”
When Phillips thinks of Liberty University, he said, founder Dr. Jerry Falwell isn’t far from his thoughts.
“It was my great honor to know Dr. Falwell when Liberty was an early idea and to watch the growth of this institution to its excellence, not just in athletics, but in academics and everything else; [this] shows what happens when God blesses a godly man — and Jerry Falwell was a wonderful and godly man whose vision has been blessed by God,” he said.
