Liberty’s annual Fall Communion Service was held Wednesday in the Schilling Center. This year, the interactive, experiential walk-thru service (held during Campus Church in the past) allowed staff and faculty to join students in a memorable worship experience.

Sam Moore, former CEO and President of Thomas Nelson Publishers, Inc., was the special guest at Wednesday convocation. Under Moore’s leadership in the 1970s and 80s, Thomas Nelson became the world’s largest Bible and Christian book publisher. It developed the New King James Bible in 1976.

The Liberty Center for Church Planting concluded a four-day “Storm the Gates” Church Planting Emphasis Week on Saturday. “Storm the Gates was only Liberty’s second Church Planting Emphasis Week in its history, and it also was a huge success,” said Dr. Dave Earley, director of the Liberty Center for Church Planting at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

Thanks to two recent developments, Financial Aid information just became easier to access and manage. Last month Liberty began partnering with Financial Aid TV, a firm based in San Francisco, Calif., to provide online video counseling for Financial Aid recipients and their parents in a YouTube format.

Vance Pitman, pastor of Hope Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nev., spoke at Liberty University’s convocation on Friday with a message calling students to help build the kingdom of God in America. “One day Jesus Christ will return and he is building a kingdom,” Pitman said.

Liberty alumnus Jamie George spoke about humility in answering God’s call to serve others during Wednesday’s convocation. George, now lead pastor of The Journey Church in Nashville, Tenn., described how God used him as he began his first church. “I don’t know why God chooses to use me, but I’m grateful that he does,” he said.

Liberty University students arrived at Heritage High School to vote in full force on Tuesday, braving the rain to ride public transit provided by LU or driving there in small groups. Two Liberty students — easy to identify by their LU sweatshirts — paused outside the high school in Lynchburg, Va., to explain how being Christians and LU students would influence their decision at the poll.

Liberty University fans who arrive early to Saturday’s football game against VMI in Lexington, Va., will be in for a special surprise. Vice President Dick Cheney will be making his third appearance to the VMI campus during the college’s Military Appreciation Day parade, taking place on the VMI Parade Ground at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.

Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. recently named four new vice presidents and two new admissions heads, including changes in resident recruitment and LU’s rapidly growing online education program. As part of the administrative changes, Falwell announced that the school’s distance learning program will be renamed Liberty University Online.
