Liberty University has welcomed more than 100 representatives from over 50 missionary sending organizations for Missions Emphasis Week (MEW), Feb. 16-20. Missions booths have been set up around campus with representatives ready to speak to students about how they can play a more active role in missions.

Liberty University’s Missions Emphasis Week (MEW) began today with a Parade of the Nations ceremony at the start of Monday’s convocation. Many of Liberty’s international students participated by reciting Scripture in their native languages and performing special music and dances.

The Liberty community participated in the nationwide Cans Across America effort Wednesday, collecting more than 6,207 pounds of canned food. The food is being delivered on Friday to the Lynchburg Daily Bread, which serves Lynchburg area families in need.

The Liberty Center for Church Planting concluded a four-day “Storm the Gates” Church Planting Emphasis Week on Saturday. “Storm the Gates was only Liberty’s second Church Planting Emphasis Week in its history, and it also was a huge success,” said Dr. Dave Earley, director of the Liberty Center for Church Planting at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

Liberty University’s Fall Missions Conference is set to kick off Monday with a focus on the disasters that shake up our everyday lives. With the theme of “Rescue,” Missions Emphasis Week (MEW) is set to encourage students to embrace a compassion for spreading the Gospel to the “least reached” people of the world.

The new Towns Lecture Hall at the B.R. Lakin School of Religion was filled beyond capacity Monday night as 925 students showed up to learn about the 14 short-term missions campaigns being offered this year by Liberty University’s Center for Global Ministries.

As a 5-year-old boy, Steve Saint’s world revolved around his father. Then he was told the devastating news that his dad had been killed. “I thought my life was over,” he said at Wednesday’s convocation service in the Vines Center. His visit was part of Missions Emphasis Week at LU.
