Social Security Payroll Tax Increase The 2% social security payroll tax cut effective in 2011 and 2012 was not renewed by Congress and expired as of December 31, 2012. Beginning with the first paycheck in January and going forward, the social security payroll tax deducted from an employee’s pay will increase resulting in a reduction of ‘take home’ pay. |
