Opportunities to complete your Christian Service are available in the areas of athletics, youth, senior adults, naturalist and more. COMMUNITY CENTERS:
Center Assistant - Assists City staff with the After-School Program for ages 6 to 17, on weekdays from 3:00-6:00 pm. Assistance needed in 6 different center locations.  Assignments may include assisting with open recreation activities, providing homework help, reading with a child, monitors computer lab, assisting with a featured activity, playing indoor or outdoor games, preparing the center environment, or helping with a neighborhood event. Neighborhood centers are lively social hubs, located in Lynchburg's central city neighborhoods.  Assistants must be able to work in an energetic environment which requires both structure and flexibility.

TEMPLETON SENIOR CENTER
Supervisor: Lynn Fox, Senior Recreation Specialist - Templeton Senior Center (455-4115 or Email) Senior Adults
Center Assistant – Acts as receptionist to greet participants and answer phone, taking messages; interacts with and engage participants, assist with luncheon preparation and clean up; set-up and monitoring of scheduled Center activities; and monitor computer lab.

Educational Speaker / Class Instructor – Presents educational or life enhancing topic in accordance with hobbies, knowledge, education, and skills. Topic could be related to: health/fitness, trade or profession, hobby and/or local opportunities or services of interest to fifty plus population.

Event Volunteers – Assists with annual events when needed throughout the year decorating, preparing food, serving, and cleaning-up. Events: Veterans’ Day Luncheon, and Thanksgiving Luncheon.

Newsletter Assistant – Assists with proofing and editing of Fifty Plus Newsletter, a monthly publication.

Sport Activity Assistant – Greets participants, keeps score, and officiates for weekly activities such as, Pickleball, Softball, Bowling, Putt-Putt and more.

Photographer – Takes pictures of classes, activities, and events for future use in brochures and publications.

ATHLETICS

Athletic Coaches and Assistant Coaches – Coach youth athletic teams teaching sportsmanship, skills, teamwork, and notifying players/parents of practices and games. Sports include: Basketball (December – March) and Girls Softball (spring & fall).

Coaches are also needed for athletic partner organizations providing play in: Football, Cheerleading, Soccer, Baseball, Volleyball, Lacrosse and Tennis. Please check our website (teamsideline.com/lynchburg) for contact information for each of these organizations.

NATURE ZONE

Nature Zone Volunteer – Assists with the operation of the Nature Zone, feeding and handling animals, and cleaning cages. Greets visitors and provides information about animals and ecosystems at the Nature Zone. Answers phones, provides general information regarding birthday parties and nature programs; set-up and assistance with birthday parties.
