Health Sciences majors or minors will integrate health practices with community service in one of the following areas: Health Promotion Center, Health Sciences Club, Health Missions Projects, or on specialty internship assignments involving professional practice. A wide range of activities will be established to meet requirements in each of these areas.

Students interested in this area of service should first contact a full time faculty member in the Department of Health Services for approval to enroll. Requirements will be outlined at the time of this meeting.

CSER 320-001: LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HEALTH - FITNESS PROGRAM

The Liberty University Health and Fitness Program is open only to students who have a Health Education or Physical Education major, minor, or endorsement. Students will be involved in the program by working closely with faculty and staff in developing health and fitness individual goals as well as implementing such goals. Students will be participating in health and fitness testing and evaluation (i.e., diet analysis, physical activity analysis, physical fitness analysis, blood lipid analysis, health habit analysis, coronary risk analysis, health risk analysis, etc.), leading exercise modules, providing support and counsel for program participants, assisting in telephone/written follow-up, and participating in other program functions.

Laboratory Assisting – Assistants will aid in the set-up of biology or chemistry laboratories, help supervise the lab and answer questions in the science lab itself, and/or run review sessions. Limited to biology, nursing and allied health majors.

Student Nurse Association – Serve as member of the student association completing community projects, presenting educational programs and representing the nursing program in outreach activities.

Med/surg Tutoring - The senior level nursing student will be responsible for tutoring junior level nursing students in NURS 301 and/or NURS 302 to include:

  • one on one tutoring
  • group review
  • post-test reviewing
  • helping with the organizational tracking of NURS 301/302 to include
  • attendance keeping, quiz tracking, and micro-sim completion tracking.

Pediatric Tutoring - The senior level nursing student will be responsible for tutoring junior level nursing students in NURS 353 to include:

  • one on one tutoring
  • group review
  • post-test reviewing

Work with selected elderly or disabled individuals in the community who need companionship or help with basic low level nursing skills, and provide much needed respite for families caring for them. For nursing students in clinical courses only.

Individuals will integrate sport management principles and experience with community service in on eof the following areas: Department of Sport Management, Liberty University Athletics, Club Sports, Campus Recreation, Student Activities, or a sport or recreation organization in the community.  Interested students in these areas of service should first contact a full-time faculty member in the Department of Sport Management for opportunities and approval to enroll.  Specific requirements will be outlined at the time of this meeting.
