Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Students who volunteer with Special Olympics Virginia will be given the opportunity to interact with athletes who have intellectual disabilities. The volunteers will help to provide them with opportunities to participate in organized athletic events and practices. Volunteers will also be given the chance to help plan and organize various events throughout the Lynchburg community.
